Root Canal Re-treatment
Teeth that have undergone root canal treatment can become re-infected again. Some common causes leading to re-infection are deep cracks, leakage through broken fillings / crowns or root canals that were not adequately cleaned in the initial treatment.
It involves removing the existing filling material, thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting the canals, and then resealing them to promote healing. The goal of root canal re-treatment is to resolve persistent infections, alleviate symptoms, and save the tooth from extraction, providing an opportunity for the tooth to heal properly and regain its health and function.
This can often be a more complex procedure than initial root canal treatment and hence it is important to have the tooth properly assessed for long-term treatment suitability. This assessment involves high magnification and advanced imaging technology.
